Valor K9, Inc. maintains a working list of
registered Therapy Dog Teams from all organizations to respond to
Veterans and First Responders who can benefit from time spent with a
comfort care animal. Therapy Dogs have been specifically trained and
tested for their temperament and situational awareness. Registered
Therapy Dogs will have passed a comprehensive test to determine their
ability to make people in stressful situations feel more at ease.
Examples of single-use visitations might include
hospital visits, nursing home visits, therapy sessions, or public events
where Therapy Dogs can help calm the emotions of our Veterans or First
Responders, simply by their presence and support. Many hospitals have
ongoing Therapy Dog visitations already in place, where the dogs visit
not only patients but staff members who benefit from the visits as well.
Sometimes psychologists or therapists find it is critical to use a
qualified, trained dog in working with Veterans. For those in need,
therapy dogs provide psychological care and understanding that humans
cannot duplicate.
